Glen Lyon is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and is one of the most beautiful, yet easily reached areas in Scotland. The area is a haven for walkers with a choice of riverside and woodland walks and plenty of mountains to climb, including Ben Lawers, Schiehallion and a circuit of four Munros known as the Glen Lyon Horseshoe.

The cottage is five miles along the glen in the tiny hamlet of Invervar, the starting point for the Horseshoe.

Six miles to the West of Invervar is Bridge of Balgie, which has a post office, a lovely tea room, a shop selling basic groceries and an art gallery. There are some beautiful walks from here including a gorge walk and a “walk for wee folk” created with the help of the local primary school children.

Nearby to the East is Fortingall, a delightful village with thatched cottages, arts and crafts architecture and an ancient yew tree. The award winning Fortingall Hotel has an excellent restaurant and bar serving coffees, lunches and evening meals.

Kenmore, at the head of Loch Tay has a gift shop, delicatessen, restaurant and coffee shop, and provides access to a variety of activities including golf, horse riding, white-water rafting, sailing and kayaking. The loch has a lovely beach which is great for picnics and barbecues.

Shopping is available in the bustling town of Aberfeldy which has restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, a cinema, a swimming pool, post office, petrol station, delicatessen, butcher and a supermarket.  The Birks O’ Aberfeldy is a lovely short circular walk up a steep gorge crossing above an impressive waterfall at the top.

Dunkeld is a pretty town with a medieval cathedral and a variety of shops and cafés. Nearby is the Hermitage, a woodland walk with a Victorian folly overlooking the Black Linn Falls.

Pitlochry has a thriving theatre, shops, cafés and some lovely forest walks. Nearby, The Queen’s View at Loch Tummel is one of Scotland’s most iconic panoramas.

The city of Perth is an hour’s drive and both Glasgow and Edinburgh are just a two hour drive away.

St. Andrews, the Central Highlands (Glencoe, Loch Ness, Ben Nevis, Speyside, Glenfinnan viaduct....) and the Trossachs (Loch Lomond, Rob Roy Country....) can all be reached within two hours.
