WALKING The area is a haven for walkers of all abilities. There are several Munros nearby, including Ben Lawers, Perthshire’s highest mountain, Schiehallion (the “Fairy Mountain”) and, just behind the cottage, a circuit of four Munros known as the Glen Lyon Horseshoe. There are also many riverside and woodland walks in the area, including a beautiful gorge walk on the Meggernie Estate at Bridge of Balgie. Other options include Drummond Hill, the Gallops at Kenmore, the Birks O’ Aberfeldy, the Falls of Acharn and Weem forest.
CYCLING The softly undulating roads around the cottage are perfect for cycling for all levels and lead to some beautiful circular routes. Bicycles can be hired in both Kenmore and Aberfeldy.
GOLF There are 18 hole golf courses at Taymouth Castle, Aberfeldy and Strathtay and 9 hole courses at Kenmore and Killin.
FISHING The River Tay and River Lyon are famed for their quality trout and salmon fishing. Fishing permits are available locally from various outlets including the Fortingall Hotel and the Glen Lyon post office.
WATER SPORTS White water rafting, kayaking and canyoning are available on the River Tay and can be arranged through a number of activity centres including Free Spirits, Splash and Dunolly Adventures.
PONY TREKKING Taymouth stables at Kenmore offer pony trekking for beginners and experienced riders.
